The Ugrabit Problem was written by Charlie Brover from the Adult Learning Center at the Borough of Manhattan Community College.
The problem centers around a fictional country called Ugrabit (pronounced You-Grab-It). Students use proportional reasoning to makes the connection between state populations and the number of Electoral College votes each state receives and then use their understanding of ratios and proportions to consider the impact that the United States electoral college system has on individual voting power, in states with large populations and states with small populations.
