Slow Reveal Map sequences use maps to explore data in historical and geographic contexts. Each sequence begins with elements hidden so the map is simplified and accessible to all learners. Then step by step, the hidden layers of the map are revealed, giving students space for sense-making. The sequences help students develop (1) statistical literacy, (2) their ability to read data in maps, and (3) background knowledge in US history, especially as it connects to social justice. Students experience math in social studies and science contexts, which is something they will face on HSE exams.
This growing collection of Slow Reveal Maps was developed by the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy Curriculum and Instruction PD Center. Each map has teacher notes with suggested discussion questions and many have additional resources for exploring topics deeper.
The maps in this collection are divided into the following categories:
- US Demographic Maps
- US Historical Maps
- US Climate Maps
- World Maps
