A three-act math task from Desmos where students look at a smaller/similar problem to create a model to predict the number of pennies that can fit within a circle. Students share their data, graph it and then decide if the relationship is linear, quadratic or exponential. Then students have an opportunity to analyze and reflect on their model and decide if in the end it fits the situation.
Here’s another version of the Penny Circle that requires less technology. All it requires is a way for students to view a short video.
