This collection of texts is designed to teach adult students the basics of civics, and can be used both as a self-study resource and as the basis for classroom lessons. The collection includes a set of beginner texts as well as a set of mid-high texts.

The Text Collection is divided into the following units:

  • Purpose of Government
  • Forms of Government
  • The Constitution
  • Making Laws
  • Executive Branch
  • Judicial Branch
  • Constitutional Principles
  • Bill of Rights
  • Elections

Each google sub-folder includes texts at both a basic and mid-high level. Many of the texts are drawn from Newsela and include quizzes with answers, whereas others are drawn from New York Times Upfront and NovelNewYork.org. Each unit also includes Suggested Activities for use with each text, political cartoons, graphs, a vocabulary list with definitions, and pro/con texts for persuasive essay lessons.
