ESL Literacy Readers are free books for ESL students. The six levels of readers are available for free download for educational use. Level A  texts contain one sentence per page paired with a picture and uses repeated vocabulary.  Level G texts have longer, continuous texts with less pictures.  They are high-interest, leveled readers that focus on stories particularly relevant to immigrants. The books come with instructional guides as well as audio books for each print book.

Food From Home (Level A)

A Problem At Work (Level C)
Duang’s Big Scare (Level F)

Thank you to Jeri Gue for sharing the resource on the LINCS Teaching and Learning Community of Practice. The ESL Literacy Readers project was funded by Bow Valley College, School of Global Access in Canada.

  1. ESL Literacy Readers are great for all ESL levels. All readers have audio and script; they are differentiated by level; there is a variety of themes students can relate to; books are easy to access and to navigate

  2. The combination of pictures, text and audio make this a versatile resource that can be used to practice listening and reading. The pictures also lend themselves nicely as picture prompts that can be used to practice speaking and writing.
