This lesson is made up of four activities that help students develop their understanding of fractions.
In this lesson, students will:
- use visual models to review benchmark fractions (halves, quarters, eighths)
- create fractions strips and explore sixteenths and make connections to the fraction increments on a ruler
- explore halves, thirds, and quarters using pattern blocks
- generate and demonstrate equivalent fractions
- place fractions on number lines
In addition to the four central activities, the lesson also includes six additional practice handouts, and 6 Test Practice questions.
This sample lesson comes from Using Benchmarks: Fractions and Operations (EMPower Math) which is part of the EMPower Math Series, and includes the notes from the Teacher Book and all of the activity handouts from the Student Book.
