Charles Darwin, by Kathleen Krull

This young adult biography of Charles Darwin is a great introduction to the story of evolution, for students and teachers. At CUNY, we assign the book as independent reading for students as support to lessons in evolution through natural selection. The content is still challenging, but the book is more accessible that other readings on evolution. Students identify with Darwin and follow the story of his life, while becoming familiar with the elements of his theory and how he came to it. They are also introduced to the other scientists on whose shoulders Darwin stood: Linnaeus, Lamarck, Lyell, Malthus, etc.
