Click for resource → PDF

Proportional Reasoning (Part 1) is available at the links above. Part 2 is available here.

In this packet, students will explore concepts in proportional reasoning, including ratios, rates, and proportions.

In Part 1, students will study the following topics:

  • Part-whole, part-to-part ratios, and rates
  • Equivalent ratios
  • Double number lines, ratio tables, and bar models
  • The language of proportional reasoning

In Part 2, students will build on what they learned in Part 1, and study the following topics:

  • Connections between ratios, fractions, percents, and decimals
  • Making comparisons between ratios
  • Solving proportions

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites to Proportional Reasoning, Part 1. As long as students are able to read this packet independently, they don’t have to study any other math packets first. Students should complete Proportional Reasoning, Part 1 before working on Proportional Reasoning, Part 2.

The Fast Track GRASP Math Packets are made available for teachers who work with students in distance learning, Fast Track Math classes, and traditional ABE/HSE classes. Click here for more information about other Math Packets.

If you are teaching with the packet, we recommend breaking it up into smaller pieces. We created a step by step guide for folks who are not sure how to break a PDF file into smaller chunksBreaking Up is (not) Hard to Do.

If you use these materials with your students, please give us feedback on the experience (teacher surveystudent survey). Your feedback on the packets will help us improve the materials, and support our students’ success.

Thank you!
