We Speak NYC is an Emmy Award-winning ESL/civics drama series created by The City University of New York in partnership with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. Each episode focuses on a particular topic, such as education, health care, democracy, worker rights, tenant rights, sustainability, and others. The series is designed to help immigrants learn English and to inform immigrants about their rights to City services.
There are three new We Speak NYC episodes, which together with Shola’s Voice, form Season 3:
Season 3 features intersecting characters and a unified theme: the health and well-being—the sustainability—of home.
- One Home is about the sustainability of home in the largest sense of the word—the home of our planet.
- Sofa Love: A Housing Romance is about tenant rights and taking care of home in the concrete sense of the word.
- Under One Roof is about getting covered and taking care of yet another kind of home—our bodies.
- Shola’s Voice is about democracy—the beating heart of our national identity, our national home.

“One Home” Music Video
“One Home” is not only the title of Season 3 episode. It is also the name of a music video, which features an enhanced version of the song in the episode.
